Australian flavours on show at Brisbane's premier dining precinct
With international travel and the excitement that comes with foreign & intriguing dining adventures out of the question for majority of the population, the current climate presents a wonderful opportunity to create an adventure within our own city and experience some of the incredible offerings local food & beverage retailers are currently serving up - showcasing some of the very best Australian produce, food & wine available.
Eagle Street Pier, home to 15 restaurants, casual dining locales and entertainment hotspots, has variety on offer and ensures that some of the very best dining experiences in Australia are right here in our own city.
New addition to the precinct, City Winery, sees the first time Brisbane has housed an inner-city winery since 1860, nearly 160 years ago (the team thought it was about due for another!). With an emphasis on Australian-grown products, City Winery Eagle Street Pier is a micro-winery sourcing grapes from across Australia’s key growing regions, and in some cases, bringing them into the city where Winemaker Dave Cush creates the delicious wines. An ethos of sourcing produce from as geographically close to the venue as possible sees a vast amount of produce coming from within a three-hour drive of Brisbane - for example, Gregg of Boss Meat Butchers Stanthorpe sources all charcuterie meats served up City Winery Eagle Street Pier, ensuring all is free-range organic meat.
COPPA Spuntino - the Italian concept for sharing - takes its inspiration from the coastal Italian offering of spuntini, pastas and large plates (accompanied by a beautiful drinks menu, of course). COPPA’s Agnolotti del Plin, typical of the Piedmont region of Italy, is made with small pieces of flattened homemade pasta dough, folded over a filling of pork sourced from Darling Downs. This is then combined with Mortadella (cured pork) which is sourced from Fortitude Valley’s Saison Salumi.
Fatcow Steak & Lobster’s Whiskey Bar features over 150 whiskeys from around the world, with a special tasting for Australian flavours. The Starward Single Malt, winner for Best Australian Blend at the World Whiskey Awards in both 2019 and 2020, is a marvellous whiskey made in Melbourne and allowed to mature entirely in Australian red wine casks. Also out of Melbourne, Solera Rye whiskey, from Australia’s only rye whiskey distillery - The Gospel. Produced using 100% local grain from a farm in the Murray Mallee region, the whiskey is aged in a mix of virgin American oak and Australian wine barrels.
