Tattoo after-care brand, Dr Pickles, launch the Tattoo Glory Hole

Leading tattoo after-care brand, Dr Pickles, has its sights set on educating those who wear art on their sleeve with how to properly care for their new investment.

With Australia experiencing a growth in the proportion of people becoming inked, the brand is launching the Tattoo Glory Hole - popping up at the Sydney Rites of Passage Tattoo Festival 11-13 November, and the Melbourne Tattoo Expo 2-4 December - with attendees able to enjoy the fun for themselves.

For the first time ever in Australia, daredevils are treated to the opportunity to have a ‘blind tattoo’ whereby they put their arm into the glory hole after sharing some core facts about themselves with the artist. Leaving with a tattoo selected to suit their personality.

Dr Pickles Marketing Manager, Samara Nilsson, said, “whilst we take tattoo aftercare very seriously, we’re hoping punters will have some fun with this concept.

25% of Australians have a tattoo - a record high - up from 20% in 2018 and 19% in 2016. While most Australians with a tattoo got inked the first time between the age of 18 and 25 (48%), over a third of people (36%) got their first tattoo when aged 26 or older.

Dr Pickles was founded in 2010 when co-founders and brothers, Luke, Xenon and Nigel Soden noticed a lack of tattoo after-care products available on the market.

People with fresh tattoos apply nappy rash cream or petroleum jelly filled ‘paw paw’ ointments which contain less than 2% papaya, looking to treat their fresh artwork,” said the Soden brothers.

With neither product being tailored to healing a delicate, fresh tattoo, we started researching the best way to heal their artwork.

Dr Pickles first signature product - the Original Formula Tattoo Balm - is an innovative mix combining both fresh & fermented pawpaw, coupled with hydrating D-Panthenol to create a moisture-rich, natural antiseptic in which is the perfect environment for a tattoo to heal and retain its original vibrancy - being an instant hit with tattoo lovers.

The unique product hydrates and seals freshly tattooed skin whilst the paw paw provides a natural anaesthetic, protecting the integrity of the tattoo by promoting the healthy cell reproduction of tattooed skin.

We were fuelled by the passion to deliver a high-quality, Australian-made product to the tattoo community,” said the Soden brothers.

The innovative brand has since expanded and now has available a hemp-based Tattoo Foam Wash - the only Australian-made tattoo wash to include hemp - along with the Original Formula Tattoo Balm across Woolworths supermarkets, tattoo studios, pharmacies and online.

The hemp wash is a soothing aloe-based, sanitizing foam, perfect for tattoo enthusiasts to use as part of the aftercare regime to maintain their artwork. It’s packed full of enzymes, nutrients, vitamins and minerals, aloe and raw coconut oil to create a gentle but potent antibacterial agent.

We’re really proud to be looking after those who wear art on their sleeve and make their mark on the world,” said the Soden brothers.

Our products are all 100% Australian-made along with being cruelty-free and ethically sourced, these vital elements allow us to deliver a superior product to our customers.”
